Youth  Choir

Orlaith Maguire
Director

Ashford Youth Choir consists of about 30 local children. It is a community based choir, formed under the direction of Orlaith Maguire (Hdip MontED) in June 2008. To date they have put in tremendous work and have achieved a very high performance standard.

The Choir usually lead the singing at 11.00 Mass in Ashford church each Sunday. Practices are held on Thursday evenings at 6.30 - 7.30 in Ashford church. Anyone wishing to come along and audition will be made very welcome.

Another aspect of the choir's activities is fundraising for charitable purposes and community participation. In the last year the choir performed a Christmas Carol Service aid of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children. The choir also performed at the Mount Usher "12 days of Christmas" fair, getting the local community into the Christmas spirit.

Like many community activities, voluntary assistance and support are essential. Therefore a big 'thank you' to Fr Kevin & Fr Edward for their support, and also Therese Sheekey, Anna Ward, Karen Sheekey and Hillary Madden for their kind assistance.

Orlaith can be contacted on 087 2433 133 or info@ashfordacademyofmusic.com with any queries, requests or offers of assistance.

Unity Gospel Choir

Dr Neville Cox
Director

The Unity Gospel Choir is a community choir, singing a wide range of traditional gospel music and contemporary pieces in the Gospel style.

Members are drawn from the Ashford and Wicklow area, from all walks of life and from various churches of the Christian faith.

The Choir regularly lead the singing at masses and services in Ashford, Killiskey, Newcastle and Wicklow parishes of the Catholic, Church of Ireland, Methodist and Presbyterian churches.

As a community based choir they have also performed in local nursing homes and as part of community group activities such as the local ICA Christmas celebrations.

The choir practices each Monday evening 7:30 to 8:30 in Killiskey parish church (Nuns Cross). Anyone wishing to join, should come along to the practice - sopranos, altos, tenors and basses are all welcome. An ability to read music or previous experience is not required - just a desire to sing in a relaxed, joyful group.

Each spring the choir performs a fundraising concert supporting local and overseas charities. Since its foundation in autumn 2007 the choir has raised almost 10,000 Euros.

Choir director Neville Cox can be contacted on 085-754 5898 with any enquiries.
