Week Ahead

. Tuesday 22 - St Mary Magdalene. Mary stood by the cross with Jesus; with two other women she discovered the empty tomb; she was granted an appearance of the Risen Lord early on the same day, from which incident she has been described as 'apostle to the apostles'. The Gospels give no warrant for identifying her with the 'woman who was a sinner' who anointed Christ's feet (Luke 7:37) or with Mary the sister of Martha (John 12:3).
Wednesday 23 - St Bridget of Sweden, Religious, Patron of Europe. Born in and after the death of her husband dedicated herself to an aesthetical life. She later founded the Bridgettine Order and lived in Rome. She was declared a Patron of Europe in 2000.

Friday 25 - St James, apostle. James, son of Zebedee and brother of John, was one of the first Apostles to die for Christ. His shrine is at Compostela in Spain.

Saturday 26 - Ss Joachim and Anne, parents of Mary.
St Anne is patron of Canada, women in labour, miners, cabinet-makers and home-makers.

Blessing of KilloughterGraves

The annual Blessing of graves in Killoughter cemetery will be taking place on Saturday August 2 at 3:00pm

WORDS OF WISDOM

Trust in God but lock your car !

Great love and great achievements involve great risk.

Silence is sometimes the best answer !

A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.

Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement.

“ The sower of the good seed is the Son of Man “

Recent Weddings

In recent weeks there were two weddings in our Church in Ashford:

On Saturday July 12th Fr.Paddy Moore assisted at the wedding of Kenneth Joynt and Jennifer Beattie while on Thursday July 17th Fr.Ryan assisted at the wedding of  Stephen Power and Eileen McCall.

We wish them much happiness in the years ahead.

Pontifical Charities

We wish to thank our parishioners for their very generous support to the recent collection for the pontifical charities. Your support totalled € 1400 .

Tremendous show of support!!

         Dog Show Success

On one of our few lovely summer days there was a great time enjoyed by everyone at the dog show held at the Boswell centre last Sunday! Again your show of support was very much appreciated and  over
€ 2000 was raised for our churches. Not a morsel of cake was left and the wheels of fortune were spun out! A great time indeed!! Even a few of the dogs made new friends!!

Great success all round!

Vocations Icon

The Diocesan Vocations office has commissioned Ireland’s leading Iconographers, Sr. Aloysius McVeigh, a Mercy Sister, from Derry, to provide an appropriate icon which would become a focus for prayer. The icon based on a drawing of the shroud of Turin is  located on the Altar of the Sacred Heart. It will be with us for a few days. As you gaze upon this copy silently pray the prayer for vocations , and reflect on the question

“where is God calling me
